Bronx Girls Skate X SK8babes Jam at Vans Space 198 Photos
3/25/2024
It’s Women’s History Month, but you didn’t know that because you’re part of the problem. Good thing Lizzie Armanto rolled up to the Vans Space in Brooklyn to celebrate March right with Bronx Girls Skate, SK8babes, and hundreds of their friends. Check the scene and get a look at the feel-good session of season. —Ted Schmitz
Rolling up and, oh shit, AVE’s got a new shoe!
First in line for an inclusive skate jam and we’ve got TWO DUDES?! Maybe they’re clueless, but I like to think they’re die-hard allies
You’re lucky Cass and the Vans staff are nice as hell, dude
We make everyone sign a waiver for the blog. We’re professionals, after all. Now, to the park
Paging Trung Nguyen
The founding figures of Bronx Girls Skate, Kava Garcia Vasquez and Melissa Ramirez. Thanks for puttin’ this thing together!
What’s this?
It’s a free board for every newcomer! Courtesy of Cowtown’s Skate Angel program and Labor Skateshop. Shout out Liv Collins from Sk8babes for handling the table. Now go buy some shit from the shops!
Tonight’s first casualty. Sometimes it’s not Gucci, fam
Probably talking about climate change
We’ve got pros, people. Ronnie, Lizzie’s likeness and Mami on deck
A closer look at said likeness
VIP (Vans important people) Cierra, Beatrice and the real Lizzie rolled up on some role model shit
Can’t be crampin’ in the field, you know
I'm gonna call this dude-filled portion of the park the penalty box
Team huddles aren’t just for jocks
Walkin’ into the park and down for the mag, this is peak performance
Kava kicks it off by inviting all the first-timers to the park for a quick clinic on the basics
Introductions: given. Hearts: warmed
Marisol Concha came ready to rock this shit
The most qualified non-union teachers in the biz. Let’s break out to see some first swings
The ollie circle was popping off immediately
The essential act
Dads were welcome to support
Moms were welcome to rip
And for crowdfunding a fraud scheme on the Southern border
I’m no fan of cops, but I had to report Jersey Dave again for a thirst homicide
Over in the corner, the cacophony of tick-tacks was rockin’ the foundation
May we present the cutest picture of the evening?
One more for good measure
Spotters are also not just for jocks
Show ‘em, Allie!
Showed ‘em
Father-daughter dance? Nah, 2024 is about the mother-daughter rip
Who needs a talking head when the hat says it all?
One of you PhD nerds needs to explain why watching people learn to drop in is more exciting than Street League finals. In the meantime, let’s go find someone with pink hair
Holy shit, you’re not gonna believe this
Clinic’s over. Now it’s time to use those skills for the jam portion of the night. Pretty easy rules: Do a trick, get some gear
The athletes assemble
It ain’t a competition; it’s a community
First prize for making it across the pad. Now let’s hit the ramps
Starting off with a classic, no comply
The moves got rad real quick. Backside flip
Kickflip on Excalibur. Take that, Arthur
New York’s rising star Marisol was stacking moves all night. This frontside flip was just one of them
Cami down!
We good
Steppin’ up to the double-sider now
And over to the bump to ledge for the demo ender. A good session is its own reward, but we also have some gear to give out
Industry-standard hardware’s a good choice
Pants for skaters?! Say less
The only event you might see CeraVe in the product box. The dusty-ass boys should take notes
You know we got shoes too!
You’ll grow into them
Who’s next?
TFW you win the product toss
Fresh planks and good times were abundant
After the dust settled, a few stragglers still wanted their pieces. Wallie 50-50
You remember how Lizzie got her start, right?
Alright, last lipslide and then we’re out. Marisol killed it all night
Wait, don’t leave yet. We got somethin’ special for you
Cori Bratz got some bars to drop
New York, show me that proddy! Looks like someone snagged that CeraVe
Vans Space and Bronx Girls Skate class of ‘24. Getting to see first-timers and all the locals link up with some of the biggest women in the game is a real cool thing. Well done, everyone
I’ll leave you with this review from the world’s number-one hater. Men, right?
